Itinerary

Day 1: Dehradun to Raithal Village

Raithal, the base camp for the Dayara Bugyal trek uttarakhand, is approximately nine hours away from Dehradun. The journey takes you through picturesque forest stretches once you leave Dehradun. After an hour, you pass through Mussoorie, which is one of the most renowned hill stations in Uttarakhand.

As you proceed towards Uttarkashi, you come across a viewpoint known as the Tingling Point, which offers breathtaking views of the Garhwal Himalayas. On a clear day, you can see a range of mountains from Swargarohini and adjacent peaks in Himachal, Mount Bandarpoonch, Mount Srikanth, the Gangotri Peaks, the Chaukhamba massif, all the way to Mount Nanda Devi.

The route's most significant town is Uttarkashi, from where you continue to Bhatwari. As you approach Raithal, you can witness a stunning sunset over the peaks of Mount Bandarpoonch, Mount Srikanth, Mount Jaunli, and Draupadi Ka Danda.

Day 2: Raithal Village to Gui

From Raithal, you can observe the distant peaks of Mt. Srikanth and Gangotri 1, 2, and 3, along with the previously mentioned mountains. As you ascend towards Gui, these peaks become more visible and prominent.

The forest where the Gui campsite is situated can be seen from Raithal. The trail from Raithal to Gui is a gradual uphill climb. Initially, the trail leads out of the Raithal village and takes you through fields. Follow the well-marked path, and in about an hour, you'll arrive at a flat grassy land. Take a brief pause here for water and continue toward Gui.

Beyond the water point, the trail becomes increasingly wooded. You will enter a forest that is primarily composed of green and brown oaks (moru and kharsu) and rhododendron, making it a lush forest. Unlike other regions, there are no pine trees present here.

Before arriving at Gui, the forest opens up to a few small clearings. The campsite at Gui is situated in a small clearing, surrounded by forests. There is a small table nearby, and you will find village huts in the area that are used by villagers in the summer. Additionally, a U-shaped hut belonging to the forest department is present at some distance.

Day 3: Gui to Chilapada

On this day of the trek, you continue along the trail from Gui towards Dayara. As you ascend from Gui, you begin to see mountains on the other side that were previously hidden from view.

Today's trek is short, covering a distance of only 3 kilometers, with gradual ascents and flat sections in between.

Starting from Gui, join the main trail and climb up to Gui Thatch, a small meadow located in the forest. On one side, you will find 5-6 Chania huts and a compact pond in front of them. There is also a mound beside the pond. You will also notice igloo-shaped structures of the Forest Department near the Chania huts.

Gui Thatch offers stunning views of the entire Gangotri range, including Shrikanth, Gangotri I, II, and III. You can also spot the Jaonli peak on the right and the top of Bandarpoonch on the left.

The next half-kilometer from Gui Thatch is an easy walk through the beautiful rhododendron. Take your time to soak in the setting of the Himalayan forest.

Here, you may have the opportunity to participate in a hug-a-tree experience facilitated by your Trek Leader, which helps you connect more deeply with the forest.

As you continue, you gradually start ascending again and cross a couple of streams that may be flowing, dried, or frozen depending on the season. Just five minutes after crossing these streams, you will see an umbrella-shaped rain shelter, which serves as a rest point. Chilapada is not far from here. Take a break, catch your breath, stretch your legs, and pause for 10-15 minutes before proceeding further.

Chilapada is only 20 minutes away from the rain shelter. After five minutes of trekking from the rain shelter, you will notice a broken trail on your left. Leave the main trail and follow this broken trail, which leads to Chilapada, a small opening between the meadows.

Day 4: Chilapada to Dayara Top and Trek to Nayata

The starting point of Dayara Bugyal, Chilapada, provides ample time to explore the vast meadows as it is situated nearby. After hiking through the forests for about half an hour, the tree line comes to an end, and the edge of the meadows comes into view. However, the full extent of the meadows is not yet apparent.

Chania huts can be spotted in front of you, and the trail continues along the edge of the meadow. If you look to your right, you will be greeted by the stunning views of Bandar Poonch and Kala Nag. The summits that accompanied you from Raithal and Gui are now significantly larger and add to the panoramic view behind you.

A photo opportunity presents itself early in the morning as the sun's rays illuminate the vast expanse of Dayara Bugyal's undulating meadows. The view is worth every effort expended to get there. During May and June, thousands of yellow, violet, and white flowers blossom across the meadows, sometimes in such abundance that one must deliberately navigate around them.

During winter, the undulating terrain is covered in miles and miles of powdery snow.

Day 5: Nayata to Raithal Village

To begin your trek to Raithal, it is recommended to start by 9 am, as it takes approximately 4 hours to reach the destination. From Nayata campsite, follow the same main trail you used to come down from Dayara Bugyal the day before. The trail continues to descend while being covered by a dense canopy of trees.

After 15-20 minutes of descending, you will reach the rain shelter from where you had diverted towards Barnala on the way up. Follow the main trail downwards from here.

Continue walking for about an hour until you reach a grassy clearing where a water source is located. Take a break and rest here before finishing the final hour's descent to Raithal. The arch of Raithal signifies the end of your trek, and GMVN is located half a kilometer down the paved road.

Continue walking till you reach GMVN, which marks the end of your enchanting Dayara Bugyal trek.

Day 6: Raithal Village to Dehradun

After having breakfast at Raithal, begin your journey back to Dehradun. The drive back is very scenic and enjoyable. It is anticipated that you will arrive in Dehradun at around 6:00 PM on the same day.
